'Dogs Swept In Saturday Doubleheader

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Fresno State baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Oregon State Saturday at Goss Stadium. The game one final was 5-2 and the game two final was 12-2.
In the opener, Fresno State (7-8, 3-3 MW) jumped in front 1-0 in the first inning after Austin Guibor hit a leadoff single that was manufactured into a run. Although the lead was short-lived as Oregon State answered with two unearned runs in the home half. The Beavers would hold the lead for the remainder of the game behind starter Drew Rasmussen (2-0).
Oregon State (12-3, 0-0 Pac-12) tacked on two more in the third against Bulldogs' starter Dylan Lee - both earned. K.J. Harrison singled, and then clean-up hitter Gabe Clark smacked a two-run home run to right field for the 4-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs plated one in the eighth, only to be matched by Oregon State in the home half to keep its three run lead - 5-2 after eight.
The Fresno State pitching staff limited the Beavers' offense in the first game to six hits, a game the Bulldogs produced nine base hits. In the loss, Lee (1-2) worked 6 1/3 innings on mound, allowed four runs (two earned), four hits and struck out one against four walks.
Rasmussen (2-0) was pegged for eight hits in 7 1/3 innings, but allowed two runs (one earned) in the win.
The second game of the doubleheader got underway at 4:09 p.m., after a two hour, 28 minute first game.
Dominic Topoozian (0-2) was named the starter, the first of his Bulldog career. The junior lasted two innings on the mound in the appearance. In both frames Topoozian retired the first two batters of each inning, but was tagged for two-out runs both times by the Beavers. Harrison hit a solo home run in the first, and Oregon State rallied for three-straight base hits in the second, the last a two-RBI single by Christian Donahue to put the Bulldogs behind 3-0.
Oregon State put away the game in the third, registering eight runs on seven hits as the Beavers batted around the order. The offense Oregon State produced in the third inning alone, bested its final scoring lines of the first two games - two runs on five hits Friday and five runs on six hits in Saturday's first game.
Oregon State hit five consecutive RBI base hits in the third, including three-straight doubles against Bulldog reliever Anthony Arias. William Munro retired the final out of the inning.
Aaron Arruda connected for a two-RBI double in the fourth that scored the Bulldogs' two runs.
The series finale is Sunday at 1:05 p.m. RHP Garrett Mundell (1-0, 3.12 ERA) is anticipated to the take mound for Fresno State, while Oregon State is expected to start RHP Jake Thompson (0-1, 10.50 ERA).
