Compton Claims Fourth MW Weekly Accolade

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The Fresno State softball team enjoyed a 5-1 record last week, earning Jill Compton Mountain West Pitcher of the Week with three victories during games held April 7-12. The Tuesday morning conference announcement marks the fourth MW accolade for Compton this season and seventh career wise as a Bulldog junior.
Compton pitched four complete games as Fresno State won a pair of conference series last week including a three-game sweep over New Mexico at home and 2-1 weekend record on the road against Utah State. In her 27 innings pitched she allowed just five runs, posting a 1.30 earned run average.
After winning the opening content with New Mexico, 7-1 on Tuesday, Compton claimed the second game of Wednesday's double header (4-1) before opening the Utah State series with a 5-2 victory on Friday. The six-game week slate was closed out with a 1-hit shutout as the Bulldogs won 8-0 in five innings.
With 13 strikeouts each against the Lobos and Aggies, Compton holds a team-best of 174 strikeouts this season logging the righty a No. 23 national ranking in the latest NCAA Women's Softball Statistics.
Of 10 conference weekly honors this season, Compton has claimed four of the last five 2015 Mountain West Pitcher of the Week accolades with two additional Bulldogs being named MW Player of the Week earlier in the season. The junior has tossed 18 complete games, with 35 appearances and a total of 182 innings pitched for Fresno State this year.
Bulldog softball returns to Margie Wright Diamond for a two-week home stand hosting Boise State Friday, April 17-19 and Nevada April 24-26 for back-to-back Mountain West series.
