'Dogs Paced by Ly's 74 at MW Championships

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Senior Madchen Ly shot a 2-over 74 to lead the Fresno State women's golf team on the first day of the Mountain West Championships at Mission Hills Country Club. The team is in eighth place after Monday's opening round.
Ly, ranked the No. 94 golfer in the NCAA by Golfstat, closed the day strong with a 1-under on the back nine after going 3-over to start the day. Ly birdied the 15th and 18th holes down the stretch for two of her three birdies. The Fresno State senior is tied for ninth place as she turns her attention to Tuesday's round.
The average score on Monday among the 45-person field was 76.33 on the par 72 Dinah Shore Tournament course at Mission Hills Country Club.
No. 27 San Diego State leads the nine team field with an even-par 288. The Aztec's Milagroas Chaves led all individuals, carding a 6-under 66, which tied the Mountain West's lowest single round score set in 2004.
