The Fresno State baseball team will conclude a five-game road trip and a stretch of 12 road games over a 15-game span on Wednesday night versus Sacramento State. The game will be played at Raley Field, home of the Triple-A affiliate Sacramento River Cats, first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday night's game will mark the third-straight year Sacramento State will have hosted Fresno State at the Triple-A ballpark. The 'Dogs won the 2013 matchup 3-2 and fell 2-1 in 10 innings last season. Fresno State entered the 2014 matchup at Raley Field ranked No. 24 by Baseball America. Wednesday's game is one of three games the Hornets will use Raley Field as its home ball park in 2015.
Fresno State defeated Air Force last time out, earning a 6-5 conference victory on Sunday behind the bat of Manny Argomaniz. The Bulldog senior recorded a career-high five RBI against the Falcons and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Taylor Tempel continued his hot streak Sunday as he reached base four times in five plate appearances. He recorded a career-high three hits and three runs scored - Argomaniz drove in all three runs scored by Tempel.
Two of three games at Air Force over the weekend were decided by one-run, increasing the Bulldogs' total to now 15 games decided by one run - Fresno State is 4-11 in those games. The `Dogs dropped the series opener 2-1 at Air Force and lost the second game of a doubleheader 10-1. The weekend pushed Fresno State's road record to 3-16 vs. a 16-5 home record.
Fresno State earned one of its 2015 home victories over Sacramento State on March 8. The 'Dogs jumped out in front 4-0 in the second inning of that March game and cruised eight innings before two ninth inning Hornet runs crossed the plate, snapping a streak of 19 scoreless innings thrown by the Bulldog pitching staff. Tim Borst led the way for Fresno State, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings. In the junior's first start of 2015, he allowed just two hits, with the first not coming until the fourth inning.
The Diamond 'Dogs return to Beiden Field on Friday to host Mountain West rival San Diego State. Following the three-game weekend series the Bulldogs return to the road, playing the next seven of eight games away from Beiden Field. Fresno State then closes the regular season hosting New Mexico, May 14-16.
