`Dogs Fall to Aztecs, 15-3

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team fell Saturday night 15-3 at Beiden Field to San Diego State, it evens the Mountain West weekend series 1-1.
The loss was the Bulldogs first by more than one run in 23 home games this season. It drops Fresno State's home field record to 17-6.
San Diego State (28-16, 15-8 MW) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first to start Saturday's game and never looked back en route to its series tying win. The Aztecs early onslaught led head coach Mike Batesole to go to the bullpen for senior William Munro before the inning was over, ending Anthony Arias' start after four batters faced and retiring one.
Fresno State (21-22, 11-9 MW) used five pitchers total in a game that saw them surrender a season-high total for runs. Each pitcher allowed at minimum two runs.
The Aztecs amassed 10 runs between the fifth and sixth innings, four in the fifth and six in the sixth inning. A grand slam by Brody Westmoreland brought home four of the runs in the sixth off Brennon Williams in a frame the Aztecs registered just two hits.
SDSU starter Mark Seyler (8-2) pitched seven innings and allowed one run on three hits to earn the win. Arias dropped to 1-2 with the loss for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State tagged SDSU relief pitcher Dalton Douty for two runs off three hits in the eighth. Taylor Tempel hit his second home run of the season to lead off the home half of the inning and Manny Argomaniz doubled home Jesse Medrano, who reached with a single.
Tempel and Argomaniz each finished the game with two hits apiece. Korby Batesole also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-2 with one run batted in. The freshman is now 4-for-4 in the first two games of the series against San Diego State.
The series rubber match between the two teams is set for Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. between the Bulldogs and Aztecs.
