FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team tees off the 2015 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship on Friday at 8:40 a.m. PT in Tucson, Ariz. It is a three-day (May 1-3), 54-hole tournament held on the Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National Golf Resort.
All 11 Mountain West teams will participate in the 54-hole championship. Eighteen holes will be played each day (Friday-Sunday), with the first tee times beginning at 7 a.m. PT.
The Bulldogs will have three players returning with experience at the MW Championship - seniors Neil Bautista and Keenan Nelson, and sophomore Michael Pugh - while freshman Justin Avery and Harold Calubid will get their first taste of championship play.
Last year's tournament was played on the same golf course. In fact, the 2015 edition will be the ninth consecutive year the tournament will be held at Tucson National. A year ago, Nelson carded the second lowest Bulldog score at 75-70-77--222, one shot behind now-graduated Nate Jessup. Nelson placed 32nd.
Fresno State finished 10th in 2014, while New Mexico returns as a two-time defending champion.
