'Dogs Complete Series Sweep at UNLV

LAS VEGAS - Fresno State completed a three-game sweep over UNLV with a 6-2 win on Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Bulldogs have now won five-straight and seven of its last nine road games.
Fresno State (27-25, 16-11 MW) scored first in all three games against UNLV. Taylor Ward started the scoring Sunday in the third inning, catching the defense off-guard with a safety squeeze with Korby Batesole on third base and Austin Guibor at first. The first sacrifice hit for Ward this season scored Batesole, and advanced Guibor to second. Manny Argomaniz put Fresno State in front 2-0 with his team-leading 15th double of the season, an RBI that scored Guibor.
The Bulldogs improved to 20-6 this season when scoring first.
Three more runs crossed the plate for Fresno State in the fourth, an inning the Bulldogs registered two doubles and the Rebels committed two errors.
Jimmy Lambert (3-2) tossed five shutout innings for the 'Dogs in the start. He struck out six and walked two, while allowing only four hits. UNLV broke the shutout in the sixth with Anthony Arias on the mound. Morgan Stotts connected for the only home run for either team in the series with a two-run shot over the left field wall.
Tim Borst pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for Fresno State to earn his first save of the season.
Brody Russell led Fresno State with two hits, while six others chipped in one apiece - Taylor Tempel extended his hitting streak to 10 games in the eighth inning with an infield single. Ward led the team with two RBIs.
Fresno State concludes the regular season hosting a three-game series against New Mexico, May 14-16. The two schools will enter the series with identical 16-11 conference records and battle for the Mountain West tournament No. 3-seed, with Nevada already locking up the No. 1-seed and San Diego State claiming the No. 2-seed on Sunday with a win at Air Force. Fresno State will honor its seniors on Saturday in the regular season finale at Beiden Field.
