`Dogs San Diego-bound for MW Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team opens up the first day of competition on Friday, May 15 at the 2015 Mountain West Conference Championships at SDSU Sports Deck on the campus of San Diego State University.
This weekend the Bulldogs will have to not only be physically and mentally strong as they compete against their competitors, but also against the unpredictable San Diego weather. Friday's forecast calls for temperatures in the low 60's and a 60% chance of rain, while Saturday's forecasted temperature increases to the high 60's with partly cloudy skies.
On the women's side, Fresno State has a few athletes that find themselves placed in the top four this year in the conference of their events.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Njeri Omawahleh, Dezirae Johnson, Nailah Harris-Murillo and Kyra Johnson are defending champions of the Mountain West and are currently leading the conference this year with a time of 3:37.88. Njeri Omawahleh, the former Edison High athlete, is also ranked third in the 200 with a time of 23.79 seconds. Fellow teammate Dezirae Johnson ranks third in the 800 (2:08.94), while her sister Kyra Johnson is ranked second in the conference for the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.73.
1500 and 5000 school record holder Annemarie Schwanz will also be competing in her two events this weekend. The German-native is ranked third in the 1500m with a time of 4:20.33 and holds the fifth spot with her time of 16:23.63 for the 5000m.
The men's track team has four athletes who are ranked in the top four of their events in the conference as well.
With a throw of 179 feet (54.85m), 2014 NCAA Qualifier Brice Sandri is ranked third in the conference for discus. Defending Mountain West long jump champion Devin Harrison is also ranked third for his event with a jump of 24 feet, 4 inches (7.42m).
Two hurdlers find themselves ranked high in their events this year for the conference. Sophomore Kamara Biawogi ranks third for the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.15, while fellow teammate Keane Bland holds the fourth spot for the 110 hurdles (14.42).
The MW Championships can be seen live on the Mountain West Network all weekend.
