'Dogs Wrap Up MW Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Sophomore Njeri Omawahleh shattered the Fresno State school record for the women's 200-meter and helped the women's 4x400-meter relay team to a Mountain West win and another school record to wrap up the Mountain West Championships on the campus of San Diego State University.
Omawahleh's record time placed her second in the women's 200m with a time of 23.45. The former Edison athlete topped the school record which was held for 18 years by former Bulldog Angela Daigle who ran a 23.69.
To cap the day, the 4x400m team of Omawahleh, Kyra Johnson, Nailah Harris-Murillo and Dezirae Johnson ran away from the competition with a first place time of 3:37.39. The Bulldogs defeated the next best time by more than four seconds, a 3:41.77 mark by Wyoming.
Kyra Johnson was also a winner in the 400m hurdles. Johnson helped the Bulldogs gain 10 points by setting a new personal best with a time of 58.22. Sister Dezirae Johnson placed fourth in the women's 800m finals with a time of 2:09.79. Fellow teammate Harris-Murillo set a new personal best to finish sixth in the 400 finals with a time of 55.34.
Annemarie Schwanz also scored points for the Bulldogs in the women's 1500m and 5000m. The junior distance runner placed second in the 1500m with a time of 4:30.86, and finished eighth out of 31 athletes in the 5000m with a time of 16:53.08.
On the men's side, Keane Bland hurdled his way to a fifth place finish in the men's 110m hurdles race with a time of 14.32. Freshmen Shane Atkinson made his first conference championship debut with a seventh place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 15 feet, seven inches (4.77m). Joseph Munoz set a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 50 feet, six inches (15.40m).
Select members from the Fresno State track and field team will travel to the 2015 NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas on May 28. Stay tuned to GoBulldogs.com for the Bulldogs' postseason qualifiers.
