Tempel Named Breakout Player of the Year Semifinalist

FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State senior Taylor Tempel was named one of 32 semifinalists for the 2015 Gregg Olson Award, presented by Toolshed Sports, on Sunday. The award honors college baseball's breakout player of the year.
Tempel, a first-team All-Mountain West selection, hit for a team-best .362 batting average and a Mountain West-best .402 batting average over 30 conference games. He recorded team bests in hits (67), multiple-hit games (21), runs scored (41) and slugging percentage (.519). Tempel also posted single-season career bests with 13 doubles, four home runs and 26 RBIs as a senior.
The Clovis, Calif. native registered single-game career highs with four hits in three different games in 2015, all in the month of May -- a month in which he accumulated 26 of his 67 hits on the season. Entering the season, Tempel had posted a single-game career-best two hits in 13 different games.
As a junior, Tempel was a .196 hitter in 25 starts and 38 games played. In three seasons at Fresno State, Tempel was a .212 hitter entering his senior year.
Finalists are scheduled to be announced on Friday, June 6th at the beginning of Super Regional action. The winner of the 2015 Gregg Olson Award will be named in Omaha, Neb. during the College World Series, June 13-23/24.
