COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State junior Jake Shull was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday. It is Shull's second weekly honor this season.
Shull pitched a one-hit, nine inning complete game shutout to lead Fresno State past San Jose State 4-0 to open its MW series on Friday, May 1. The junior's no-hit bid was broken up by an infield single, hit deep into the 6-hole 5 2/3 innings into the game for the Spartans sole base hit.
Fresno State's Friday night starter made two appearances in the games played April 28-May 3, which also included a one-inning relief appearance Tuesday (April 28) at California. Shull did not allow a hit vs. the Bears either, totaling Shull's week to 10 innings pitched with one hit allowed and no earned runs crossing the plate.
Monday's honor from the conference is the second of the season (and career) for Shull, dating back to Feb. 16. Shull earned two wins pitching in relief over a three-game span against UC Irvine during the regular season series opener, Feb. 13-15.
