'Dogs Set to Compete for National Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin Thursday evening for four Fresno State Bulldogs who have earned their way to compete for a national championship at the prestigious Hayward Field, Track Town USA, in Eugene, Ore. Fresno State will compete in two events on Thursday - the 400-meter hurdles (6 p.m.) and 4x400m relay (7:18 p.m.).
Kyra Johnson highlights the Bulldog contingent, representing Fresno State in two national events. Johnson will run in the second heat of the 400m hurdles semifinal to start the day, and then compete in part of the 4x400m relay team less than an hour and half later.
There are three heats with eight runners in each heat of the 400m hurdles, the top two from each heat plus the next best two times advance to the final on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Johnson qualified for the national semifinal with a time of 58.36 seconds in Austin, Texas at the West Preliminary Round.
The Fresno State women's 4x400m relay team of K. Johnson, Nailah Harris-Murillo, Dezirae Johnson and Njeri Omawahleh will run in the third heat of the relays. The Bulldogs broke the all-time school record in the event with a 3:35.34 at the preliminary round to qualify.
There are three heats with eight teams in each heat of the 4x400m relay, the top two teams from each heat plus the next best two times advance to the final on Saturday at 4:20 p.m. Fresno State will be up against Oregon, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Texas, Miami, Purdue and Alabama State in the semifinal heat.
