FRESNO, Calif. - Two Fresno State golfers qualified for the 2015 United States Amateur Championship on Monday - Alexander Lee from the men's golf team and Hannah Sodersten from the women's golf team.
Lee, an incoming freshman that committed to the Bulldogs on Nov. 13, 2014 out of Rio Americano High School (Sacramento, Calif.), fired a 36-hole 2-under 140 (68-72) to earn his spot. To qualify, the low three scores out of a 76-player field at Rancho Murieta Country Club (Par 71, 6,775 yards) in Rancho Murieta, Calif. moved on to the U.S. Amateur Championship, Lee was third. The championship will be held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill. on Aug. 17-23.
On the women's side, soon-to-be senior Sodersten advanced to the women's U.S. Amateur Championship through an 18-hole qualifier held at Cameron Park Country Club in Cameron Park, Calif. Sodersten carded a 1-over 73 on the 6,064-yard course to finish in a tie for third-place. The low eight scores out of a 79-player field earned a bid for the 2015 tournament that will be held at Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore. on Aug. 10-16.
