Fifita Named to Lombardi Award Watch List

HOUSTON - Fresno State senior offensive tackle Alex Fifita was named to the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list on Tuesday. He is one of 34 candidates that was added to the initial watch list announced on July 15.
The annual award recognizes the nation's top down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who sets up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of the scrimmage.
Fifita is returning from a junior campaign where he started all 14 games and helped Fresno State to 26.5 points and 406.1 yards of offense per game. He was named an All-Mountain West honorable mention selection to cap the 2014 season and enters the 2015 season as a member of the MW preseason all-conference team.
That MW preseason selection, announced in July, tabbed Fifita a Lombardi Award watchlister as it includes all players who receive significant preseason honors.
The 46th Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on Dec. 9, 2015 at the Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas. Proceeds from the Rotary Lombardi Awards stay in the Houston community and benefit the American Cancer Society, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centers / Children's Cancer Hospital, and Texas Children's Cancer Center.
