Fresno State's Season-Opening Road Trip Continues
The Fresno State soccer team heads to Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore., on Friday to face the Beavers at 2:30 p.m., and will then travel south to Pape Field in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday to face the Ducks at 1 p.m. Both matches will air on Pac-12 Oregon.
About the Beavers (1-0-0)
Oregon State and the Bulldogs have met twice, resulting in a 3-2 overtime win for the Beavers in 1996 and a 1-1 tie in 2008. This season, Oregon State started off with a 2-1 double overtime win against Portland last Friday, as freshman Allison Pantuso scored both of the Beavers' goals. The two goals are half of the total goals Oregon State scored in all of 2014, after posting an 0-17-3 record.
About the Ducks (0-2-0)
Oregon won its only match against Fresno State 2-0 in 2009. The Ducks have yet to win a match this season, losing to LSU on Friday and Seattle on Sunday. In 2014, Oregon went 7-10-2.
By the Numbers
Sophomore midfielder Carly Bracken has recorded Fresno State's lone shot on goal this season in the Aug. 21 match against Duke. Six Bulldogs have taken two shots each this season. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Theroux has played two halves and recorded six saves, while fellow freshman goalkeeper Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann has seven saves in just 75 minutes. Returning sophomore goalkeeper Domenique Banta has played 15 minutes, allowed no goals and recorded no saves.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the Carolina Nike Classic last weekend without a win, losing to Duke and then-No. 7 North Carolina. The Fresno State defense has had its share of work this season, as opponents have outshot the 'Dogs 62-12 and lead in shots on goal 25-1.
Mountain West
San Diego State has started off its season strong, winning both of its contests last weekend, including a win against No. 16/17 Kentucky. The Aztecs lead the conference in goals, assists, points, goals allowed and corner kicks. Utah State and Colorado State began its seasons undefeated as well. Fresno State leads the conference with 13 saves. Boise State, Nevada, Wyoming and New Mexico join the 'Dogs as teams still looking for their first win of the season.
