Clayton, Lee Earn Top 10 Finishes at Ram Masters Invite

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Fresno State men's golf team placed third while Trevor Clayton and Alex Lee earned top-10 finishes at the Ram Masters Invitational at Fort Collins Country Club on Tuesday. The Bulldogs carded a final round 5-over 285, which was led by Clayton who fired a 1-under 69.
"The team battled, grew, and overcame some adversity over 54 holes," said interim head coach Paul Ladwig. "The Fort Collins Country Club was a great test for the team to put us in a position to win the Nick Watney Invitational."
Fresno State played consistent golf, while improving itself each round (291-286-285=868) on the par 70, 7,215-yard course. The 'Dogs entered the final round in third place and held strong all day.
Lee was the key contributor, who recorded a seventh place finish at 1-over, 211. He turned in two even-par 70's on Monday and a final round 1-over 71. Lee posted 13 of the team's 44 birdies at the invitational.
"Alex played steady golf over the 54 holes for us," Ladwig said. "His ability to manage the golf course propelled him to his first top-10 finish as a Bulldog."
Third-year head coach Chad Spencer, who was absent on paternity leave, will be back with Fresno State to lead the team at its next tournament - the second annual Fresno State Nick Watney Invitational on Oct. 5-6 at Fort Washington Country Club.
