AURORA, Ore. - Four Bulldogs finished inside the Top 20 as the Rose City Collegiate came to a close Tuesday with senior Hannah Sodersten leading the group with a third place tie. As a team, Fresno State finished third out of the 15-team field at Portland State's tournament at Langdon Farms Golf Club.
Despite missing the top spot, Fresno State set the mark for the second lowest tournament score in school history at 11-over 875 (296-285-294). The ‘Dogs second round 3-under 285 on Monday matched the school's lowest single round score set just a season ago.
Three tournaments into the 2015-16 season, Sodersten has now placed inside the Top 10 at each event to start the year (T2 – Ptarmigan Ram Classic, T9 – WSU Cougar Cup, T3 – Rose City Collegiate). After an opening round 74, the senior fired back-to-back 70's, tying her all-time single round low. On Tuesday, she posted par on each hole on the front nine, and birdied three and bogeyed one on the back. Sodersten's birdie total was 10 for the tournament.
Each week the Bulldogs keep finding a way to better themselves, placing two in the Top 20 to start the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, three in the Top 20 last week at the WSU Cougar Cup, and now four in the Top 20 at the Rose City Collegiate.
Up next for Fresno State is its first week off after three tournaments in as many weeks to start the season. The 'Dogs get back to work on Oct. 9-11 at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver. The fall season concludes two weeks after the Bulldogs trip to Colorado, Oct. 25-27, at the UNLV Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
