COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State senior Nikolas Papic was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday.
Despite the Bulldogs falling against No. 5 Texas A&M in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Papic helped lead Fresno State to a 4-3 win over No. 65 San Francisco the following day. In the dual match, Papic and teammate Jeremy Moser helped the team equalize in doubles before Fresno State won the critical doubles point.
In singles, with the dual match tied at 3-3, Papic had a marathon match with Thomas Takemoto. The two split the open sets with both going to tiebreakers. Dropping the second set, Papic answered back in the final set, breaking Takemoto early in the match before winning the set 6-3 and earning the Bulldogs the team win.
With the victory, the 'Dogs moved up in this week's rankings from No. 68 to No. 66.
