Johnson Sisters Grab Pair of Wins

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Fresno State opened its indoor track and field season at the Air Force Collegiate Open on Friday and picked up a pair of victories from senior sisters Dezirae Johnson and Kyra Johnson. The meet was held at Cadet Field House on the grounds of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The `Dogs finished 1-2 in the 400-meter behind Kyra Johnson (56.55) and Njeri Omawahleh (57.03). Omawahleh's time was an indoor personal best.
Dezirae Johnson won the 800m run while teammate Meagan Paracholski placed third. Johnson timed in at 2:20.06 and Paracholski's mark was 2:22.75.
Nailah Harris-Murillo clocked a 25.23-second time in the 200m. A new personal best on the indoor stage.
Tiffany Gilmore led a group of four Fresno State participants in the weight throw, finishing fourth overall with a mark of 17.08 meters (56'-0.50").
Kayla Hopkins, a shot put participant in last summer's USA Junior Nationals, posted a 13.77m (45'-2.25") throw in the event on Friday night -- the mark on her sixth throw of six. Hopkins placed third in the event and was followed by teammates Yazmin Torres and Gilmore in fourth (13.30m) and fifth (13.07m), respectively.
Kyndol Craver, the `Dogs sole runner in the 60m hurdles, sprinted to a 9.31-second time for a seventh place time among the university group. Janay DeLoach of team Nike took the top spot with a time of 8.00-seconds.
Shakira Lewis ran a 7.73-second 60m dash, placing seventh out of 36 sprinters.
The Bulldogs will be back in action at the Cherry and Silver Invitational, a two-day event hosting by New Mexico, on Jan. 22-23.
