Gildea leads `Dogs through round 2

LIHU`E, Hawai`i -- The Fresno State men's golf continued to be led by Greg Gildea as the John Burns Invitational continued on Thursday with the second round. The sophomore backed up an opening round 2-under-par 70 with a 1-over-par 73. He is tied for 11th overall.
Gildea made four birdies on Thursday, leading to a 2-over-par on the front-nine and 1-under-par on the back-nine. The front-nine played up-and-down for the `Dogs leader as he carded three birdies along with two bogeys and a triple bogey on the par-4 fourth hole. But he scored eight pars on the back, and a birdie on the par-5 No. 13. Gildea teed off on hole No. 12 for Thursday's shotgun start.
It's been tough sledding for the rest of the squad at Wailua Golf Course. After two rounds Alex Lee is 8-over-par (76-76), Troix Tonkham is 9-over-par (76-77), Trevor Clayton is 11-over-par (77-78) and Cody Riecks is 12-over-par (81-75).
Riecks bounced back with a better round on Thursday as he led the team with five birdies, which included a string of three-straight birdies to start the day.
As a team, Fresno State is in 14th place at 24-over (299-301=600).
The third and final round of the John Burns Invitational starts at 10:30 a.m. (PT) with a shotgun start on Friday. Live scoring can be followed on golfstat.com.
