FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman Mantas Bugailiskis and junior Euan McIntosh provided the Fresno State men's tennis team with an early spark in doubles, but No. 22 Tulane was too much for the Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon, defeating the home team 4-0 at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The loss was Fresno State's first of the season on its home courts while the Green Wave improved to 13-4 overall.
Trailing 1-0 in doubles play, Bugailiskis and McIntosh cruised to an impressive 6-2 upset of the No. 18 duo of Chi-Sahn Jao and Dominik Koepfer. The loss was only the Green Wave's top tandem's third of the season, and second of the spring, as they now sit at 17-3. The victory for the Bulldog duo was its best of the season as the two improved to 8-1.
Despite pulling level with the win in the No. 1 spot, Tulane grabbed the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court three. The Green Wave continued its momentum from the doubles win into singles play as the No. 1 ranked player in the country, Keopfer, defeated McIntosh 6-2, 6-2. His doubles teammate, Joa, then ousted Jeremy Moser 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. On court two, No. 83 Constantin Schmitz clinched the dual match for Tulane as he knocked off Bugailiskis 6-2, 6-3.
Fresno State will turn its attention to Friday's doubleheader as the Bulldogs host Sonoma State at 10 a.m. PT before facing Holy Names at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
