STANFORD, Calif. -- Alex Lee fired a team-best second round 2-over-par 72 for the Fresno State men's golf team on Friday at The Goodwin, held at the par 70, 6,727-yard, Stanford University Golf Course. Lee helped the Bulldogs to a 15-over-par 295 team score, which dropped the 'Dogs into a tie for 20th with Loyola Marymount after closing Thursday in 15th with an opening round 293.
Lee improved his second round from the first by five strokes (77-72), which led the freshman to making the biggest move up the leaderboard for the Bulldogs. He climbed into a tie for 94th at 9-over-par (149), from 104th following round one.
Justin Avery, who fired an opening round 1-under-par 69, continues to lead Fresno State despite shooting a 5-over-par 75 on Friday. The sophomore's stellar first round kept him on top of the Fresno State leaderboard as he is tied for 37th at 4-over-par 144.
After two rounds, the course is playing 3.38 strokes over-par following 276 rounds played by the field of 138 individuals. There are just three holes playing under-par at Stanford University Golf Course, and each is the three par 5 holes that the course has to offer - holes No. 1, No. 7 and No. 16.
The `Dogs will tee off the final round from hole No. 1 from 7:30-8:14 a.m. Live scoring can be followed on golfstat.com.
