Bulldogs knock off No. 72 Arizona, 6-1

TUCSON, Ariz. - Behind a dominant display in singles play, the Fresno State men's tennis team knocked off its first ranked opponent of the season on Saturday, defeating No. 72 Arizona, 6-1, at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon. The Bulldogs claimed four of its five singles matches in straight sets.
The 'Dogs started the day by dropping the first of the three doubles matches 6-1 on court two, but Youssef Hassan and Nikolas tied up double splay with a 6-2 win on court three. With the opening point on the line, Mantas Bugailiskis and Euan McIntosh easily topped Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett 6-3 on court one.
Fresno State faltered on court six as Will Adkisson defeated Patrik Pech, 6-0, 6-4, as the Wildcats tied the dual match at 1-1, but from that point on, the Bulldogs took over with three consecutive straight set victories. Hassan began Fresno State's push with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5, and that was followed by a 6-3, 6-4, victory from Bugailiskis. McIntosh clinched the match for the Bulldogs on court one with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jason Jaruvan on court one.
With the win secured, the 'Dogs continued to roll in singles as Papic defeated Harry Busby in 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Moser then concluded the day for Fresno State with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 win at No. 5 against Oliver Plaskett.
The Bulldogs travel to Davis Calif., on March 9 for a midweek matchup with UC Davis at 2 p.m. PT.
