Mayar Sherif Ahmed selected MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the second consecutive week and third time in her career, Fresno State sophomore Mayar Sherif Ahmed has been named Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The sophomore helped lead Fresno State to a perfect 2-0 week with wins over CSUN (6-1) and No. 56 Hawai'i (4-1) on March 5 and March 6, respectively. The win over Hawai'I was the Bulldogs fourth over a ranked opponent this season.
Ahmed went 2-0 in the No. 1 singles position and 1-0 in both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots during the two matches.
Playing in the top singles position, the sophomore defeated Micky Hsu of CSUN, 6-3, 6-3, before knocking off Hawai'i's Cindy Nguyen, 7-5, 6-1. She also picked up a doubles win with sister Rana Sherif Ahmed against CSUN, 6-4, in the No. 1 spot, and also won at the No. 2 doubles position versus Hawai'i, while partnering with Galina Bykova to earn a 6-0 victory.
Fresno State has claimed four of the conference's eight Player of the Week awards this season.
