There are nine Mountain West golf programs, and each are vying for the automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA postseason play at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.
Golfstat.com ranks two Mountain West teams inside its top 25 (No. 17 UNLV, No. 22 San Diego State) while five others are in the top 100 (No. 52 New Mexico, No. 55 San Jose State, No. 68 Colorado State, No. 76 Fresno State, No. 96 Nevada). Rounding out the league, there are two others outside the top 100 (No. 102 Boise State, No. 136 Wyoming).
Fresno State enters its fourth MW Championship golf tournament this week since joining the league. Its best finish is third, accomplished in 2013 and 2014, while finishing tied for seventh in 2015.
As a freshman, Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir won the MW Individual Championship at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course in 2014. She was the third Bulldog to claim an individual conference championship in program history - the prior two were achieved in the WAC (Laura Luethke-2008, Hali Coppin-2010).
Fresno State has one team conference championship in its 11-year program history, won during the 2008 WAC conference tournament.
Fresno State owns a team scoring average of 294.57 (6.86 vs. par), which is on pace for the Bulldogs best average in the program's 11-year history.
Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir leads the team with its best season scoring average at 73.21 (1.29 vs. par).
She is on pace to challenge Madchen Ly for the Bulldogs all-time best season scoring average, which was during the 2014-15 season at 73.29 (1.29 vs. par).
Fresno State student athletes garnered Mountain West Golfer of the Week honors three times out of the five spring tournaments this season. Kristin Simonsen picked up the accolade on Feb. 17 following the Peg Barnard Invitational (74-73=147). Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir was named MW Golfer of the Week on March 9 following the Bulldogs home-hosted Fresno State Classic (68-71=139) and on March 29 after the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational (76-72-72=220).
Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir has led the 'Dogs with its best individual tournament score over the last three events and placed inside the top 15 of the last four.
Kristin Simonsen, who joined the Fresno State squad in January, has placed in the top 25 in each of the five spring tournaments and owns a 73.69 scoring average. The Bulldogs have used all 13 rounds she has carded towards the Bulldogs' team score in the 5-count-4 format.
Hannah Sodersten owns four top 10 finishes and has finished in the top 25 in eight of the Bulldogs' 10 regular season tournaments during the 2015-16 season.
Kristin Simonsen is ranked No. 152, Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir is ranked No. 220 and Hannah Sodersten in ranked No. 226 in the latest Golfstat.com individual top 250 rankings, released April 13.
