Simonsen named second-team All-MW

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two days after being selected to participate in the 2016 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals, Fresno State freshman Kristin Simonsen was named second-team All-Mountain West by the league on Wednesday. The MW selects five golfers to its first team and five to its second team.
Since joining the team in January as an incoming freshman, Simonsen played in six tournament (16 rounds) during the spring season. She owned a 73.88 scoring average and tallied two top 10 finishes -- including last time out at the Mountain West Women's Golf Championship (T-10th).
Simonsen earned one Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week honor during the spring. It was after her first collegiate tournament, the Peg Barnard Invitational, where she shot a 5-over-par 147 and placed 15th out of 70.
The Norway native, contributed to the team score with all 16 rounds she played in as part of the 5-count-4 scoring format, helping the 'Dogs to their lowest season scoring average in school history (295.00). Simonsen's low-round was 1-under-par 71, accomplished twice.
Simonson will compete at the Stanford Regional, May 5-7.
