FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team plays host to the Fresno Freeze on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. PT on the Fresno State football practice field in its second 2016 spring scrimmage. The teams will also offer a kick-around featuring TOPSoccer and meet & greet beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The kick-around, meet & greet and scrimmage are free and open to the public. This will provide an opportunity for soccer fans of all ages to interact with both teams, take pictures, get autographs, learn a new move or two from the players, and enjoy a unique exhibition match.
TOPSoccer is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers.
"We look forward to hosting the Fresno Freeze here at Fresno State," Bulldog head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "They are preparing for their second season and will have many experienced players returning to their lineup, including a formidable Bulldog alumnae cohort, so it will be a quality challenge for our group in this important development period. "
The Fresno Freeze Futbol Club is an amateur women's soccer team based in Fresno, Calif., and will feature former Bulldogs such as Fanny Johansson, Alyssa Cruz and Jaycee Bingham. Fresno State assistant coach Lauren McAdam will also play as goalkeeper for the Freeze. Founded in 2014, the team competes in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) playing in the Pacific-North Division.
The Bulldogs hosted Sacramento State in a spring scrimmage on March 12 and came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a late goal from Myra Delgadillo.
The 'Dogs will return 17 student-athletes for the 2016 season, including three seniors, nine juniors, four sophomores and a redshirt freshman. Zwaschka is returning for his eighth season at the helm of the Bulldogs and has coached the most games in program history (141).
