COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State track and field senior Je'Nia Sears was named Mountain West women's outdoor field athlete of the week on Tuesday. She is the first Bulldog to be named an outdoor track or field athlete of the week by the league since joining it in 2013.
In the long jump, Sears won the Invite section of the Stanford Invitational with the fourth-best mark (6.33m/20'-9.25") recorded in the NCAA this season. The Edison High School graduate, who set the Fresno State all-time record with a 6.27m jump in 2014 as a junior, reset the all-time mark on Friday, April 1 - Sears utilized a redshirt season in 2015.
Sears has been at the top of the Mountain West performance list since her first leap of the season, a 6.22m jump, recorded on March 22 at the CenCal Twilight.
Prior to the 2015 season, coaches voted to add a field athlete of the week, in addition to a track athlete of the week, on the men's and women's side.
