The 2016 Times-Delta/Advance-Register All-Tulare County Boys Tennis Player of the Year, Bailey Gong, will remain close to home and play at Fresno State during the upcoming season.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's head tennis coach Luke Shields has announced that Valley-product, Bailey Gong, will join the Bulldogs for the upcoming season. Gong recently finished his career at Central Valley Christian with a 153-10 record.
Â
"We are happy to add some local talent to our roster," Shields said. "One of the Valley's best high school players in the past few years joins our team. Bailey will be joining the prestigious Smittcamp Honors program in the fall after he received a 4.38 GPA in high school. He also compiled a phenomenal record in high school matches. I am excited to see Bailey thrive in the team environment. I believe he will improve tremendously with the consistent practice and competition schedule. "
Â
Following his older brother Andrew's footsteps as the 2013 Times-Delta/Advance-Register boys tennis player of the year, Bailey has earned the honor the past three seasons to keep the award in the family. This year, he led CVC to the Central Section Division III championship match. In singles, he placed third in the section's individual tournament for the second straight season.
Â
The 5-foot-6 player from Visalia finished his final year at CVC with a 29-1 record.
