The Barcelona native has won multiple ITF championships during his juniors career.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's head tennis coach Luke Shields has announced the addition of Ignasi de Rueda de Genover to his team for the 2017 spring season. The Barcelona product native will have four years of eligibility.
"I was thrilled throughout the recruiting process of getting to know Ignasi," Shields said. "His great energy and intensity is what stuck out. He is a fun guy that will be a great team player and bring the passion needed for a team to be successful. I see him being a great leader and making a huge impact as a Bulldog. He comes from a great family and we are now happy to have him as a part of our family."
The 6-foot-1, right-handed player has won four International Tennis Federation tournaments; one G1 (singles) in France, a G4 (doubles) in Spain and his first ITF titles which came at a G4 in Slovenia (singles and doubles). He was also a finalist at a G3 tournament in Spain and reached the quarterfinals of the Spanish U18 Championships.
"After looking at multiple colleges, I really connected with Coach Shields," the Spaniard said of his recruitment. "The goals he presented motivated me which made me want to play for him."Â
While playing with Barcino Tennis Club for the past 10 years, de Rueda de Genover's club was state champions in Catalonia at the U12, U14, U16 (twice) and U18 levels.Â
