2016-17 Men's Golf Schedule Announced

Fourth-year head coach Chad Spencer announced his team's 11-tournament schedule for the 2016-17 season Monday
FRESNO, Calif. -Â Fresno State head men's golf coach Chad Spencer revealed the Bulldogs 11-tournament schedule for the 2016-17 season on Monday. A slate that features trips to Poppy Hills Golf Course, Olympic Club, Stanford Golf Club and Tucson National Golf Club.

"For the 2016-17 season we again have a fantastic schedule," said Spencer. "It will be a competitive schedule that features tournaments Fresno State golf is familiar with and also a few new events that will give our guys experiences they won't forget."

Of the five fall events on the calendar, the Bulldogs will host the third annual Nick Watney Invitational on Oct. 3-4, which will be held at San Joaquin Country Club. Watney, a former Bulldog and teammate of Spencer, turned pro in 2003 following a career at Fresno State from 2000-03. He has since earned 49 career top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour.

"Our home event in October, again hosted by Nick Watney will be at San Joaquin Country Club for the third edition" Spencer said. "We already have our home tournament dates circled on the calendar. It's an important tournament on the schedule and our guys will be ready to defend our home course."

The Bulldogs hosted 13 teams last season and finished second while three returners to this year's team placed in the top 10 - Justin Avery, Trevor Clayton and Cody Riecks.

The upcoming schedule features three tournaments that will be new to the Bulldogs - USF Olympic Invitational, Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and Bandon Dunes Championship - while the other eight, which includes the Mountain West Championship, will be familiar to a team that returns all its lettermen from a season ago.
