Kim leads ‘Dogs in season opener after day one

Fresno State wraps up its first tournament of the 2016-17 season with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start at Fort Collins Country Club on Tuesday
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In what is a unique season opening trip for the Fresno State women's golf team, down two team members due to their participation in the 2016 World Amateur Team Championships, Joanna Kim, Kristin Simonsen and Samantha Spencer teed of the 2016-17 season playing as individuals at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Monday.
Kim leads the trio at 10-over-par after 36 holes and sits in a tie for 46th among the field of 86. The junior fired an opening round 1-over-par 73, which included four birdies during the round, and then followed with a 9-over-par 81 over the next 18 holes.
Simonsen, the Bulldogs' 2016 NCAA Regionals representative, started her season with a 9-over-par 81. After opening the second round with a double bogey, Simonsen settled in by going 1-over-par over the next 17 holes. She is tied for 59th at 12-over-par (156).
Spencer fired a 79, followed by an 81 on the par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club course. She is tied for 76th.
The final round will get underway on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. PT.
