‘Dogs open UNLV Fall Invite with five wins

Stloukalova, Triebe, Wilson and Lawson advance to semifinals of their singles draws.
LAS VEGAS – Fresno State's women's tennis team officially opened its season on Friday, finishing the first day of the UNLV Fall Invitational with a 4-3 record in singles play, and going 1-2 in doubles at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Three of the Bulldogs' singles wins came from a trio of freshman, highlighted by the No. 1 draw in which Katerina Stloukalova cruised past Bara Michalkova of Washington State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. In the No. 3 draw, Juliane Triebe battled back after dropping her opening set to UNLV's Paola Artiga, 6-1, advancing to tomorrow's semifinal by winning the last two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Fellow freshman Georgia Lawson earned a straight-set victory in the No. 4 draw, defeating Washington State's Melissa Ates, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Emma Wilson also picked up her first win of the season, topping Long Beach State's Lena Pacholski, 7-5, 6-3.
The duo of Triebe and Wilson were the lone Fresno State pair to win their opening doubles match, defeating LBSU's team of Laura Eales and Maren Helgo, 8-5.
Saturday's matches will begin at 10 a.m. PT.
