'Dogs finish day one of the UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Fresno State finished the first day of the UCSB Classic on Friday, with two players and one doubles team advancing to the second round.  Jeremy Moser, Cem Erturk, Henrique Osorio and Cagatay Soke made the trip for the Bulldogs.The UCSB Classic began Friday, Oct. 6 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 8. The field features players from the Pac-12's University of Washington, Cal, UCLA and Stanford while also having athletes from UCSB, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, St. Mary's, Cal Poly and Pacific.Â
The tournament kicked off with doubles on Friday, Fresno State was 1-1 on the day. In Flight A, the duo of Moser and Soke were defeated by Sommer and Lam of Washington 8-5. They will play on the consolation side of the bracket tomorrow against Barretto and Barretto of Cal. Osorio and Erturk grabbed their first win as a doubles team in Flight B, defeating Watson and Solbas of Pacific 8-3. Osorio and Erturk will face Moreno and Shekhara of UCSB in the second round tomorrow.Â
Moser competed in Flight A for Fresno State. He fell to Bjorn Hoffman of Cal in a hard fought three set match 7-6, 6-7, 6-1. He will face Simon Freund of UCSBÂ in the consolation side of the draw on Saturday.Â
In Flight B, Erturk shined in his Bulldog debut with a win over UCLA's Bryce Pereira in the first round (6-3, 6-2). Erturk will meet Daniel Orlita of Pacific in the second round on Saturday. Osorio fell in the first round of Flight B to Dominic Barretto of Cal (6-2, 6-1). He will play on the consolation side of the draw on Saturday, starting with match against Ross Watson of Pacific.Â
Soke pulled through for the Bulldogs in Flight C with a win over Cal's Jackson Suh (7-5,6-2). He will face Diego Nava of Loyola Marymount in the second round on Saturday.Â
