Two 'Dogs play for titles at the UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Fresno State finished the second day of the UCSB Classic on Friday, with two players advancing to the championship round.  Jeremy Moser, Cem Erturk, Henrique Osorio and Cagatay Soke made the trip for the Bulldogs.The UCSB Classic began Friday, Oct. 6 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 8. The field features players from the Pac-12's University of Washington, Cal, UCLA and Stanford while also having athletes from UCSB, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, St. Mary's, Cal Poly and Pacific.Â
Erturk continued to shine on day two for the Bulldogs. He defeated Daniel Orlita of Cal Poly in the second round in straight-sets 6-4, 6-1. In the third round he beat Kento Perera of Stanford 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the Flight B championship match. He will face Piers Foley of Washington in the championship match on Sunday. On the other side of Flight B, Osorio won two matches today against Ross Watson of Pacific (6-2, 6-2) and Henrik Atlevi of UCSB (6-2, 6-3). Osorio will play in the ninth place match on Sunday against Jack Davis of Washington.
Soke had an outstanding day in Flight C for Fresno State. The sophomore defeated Diego Nava of LMU in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) in the second round. He beat Can Kaya of Cal (7-6, 6-4), to advance to the championship. Soke will face Joseph Rotheram of UCSB in the championship match on Sunday.
Moser defeated No. 124 Anders Holm of UCSB (3-6, 6-1, 6-0) in extra matches played in Flight A. This marks the first win over a ranked opponent in Moser's career and the first by a Bulldog this season.
In doubles, Moser and Soke fell to Barretto and Barretto of Cal 8-2. The duo played in Flight A for Fresno State. Osorio and Erturk fell in the second round of Flight B against Moreno and Shekhara of UCSB (8-4). The duo will play in the match for third place on Sunday against Kaya and Matta of Cal.
