'Dogs play Aztecs to a double-overtime draw, 1-1

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State women's soccer team had a double-overtime draw for the second time in conference play, this time against San Diego State. After 110 minutes the match was tied 1-1 at SDSU Sports Deck, on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs lone goal was headed by Marina Kerrache, her first of the season.
Fresno State becomes 6-5-3 (1-3-2 MW) on the season, remain eighth in Mountain West standings.
Megan Amick, Myra Delgadillo, Melissa Ellis, Alissa Pham, Peyton Cline, Kaitlyn Crooker, Anna Crawford, Carly Bracken, Angie Weiner and Kerrache led the charge for the 'Dogs, with Nicole Theroux in the box.
FIRST HALF – Fresno State controlled the ball for much of the first half, despite recording less shots than SDSU in the first 45 minutes.
The Aztecs took shot on goal in the second minute, Theroux recorded her first save of the match. SDSU took back-to-back corner kicks in the fifth minute but couldn't get a shot off. The Aztecs took their second shot on goal in the seventh minute, Theroux grabbed her second save of the contest to keep SDSU scoreless.
Cline recorded the 'Dogs first shot in the 17th minute, the SDSU goalkeeper had a diving save to keep the contest 0-0. Fresno State had another offensive opportunity in the 43rd minute when Delgadillo took a corner kick that lead to shot from Glaser, the shot was blocked and deflected out of the box.
The 'Dogs and the Aztecs took a scoreless tie into halftime.
SECOND HALF – The second half proved to be a power struggle between the two squads. SDSU's offense was the first to find its rhythym. In the 64th minute, Mia Root scored from 15 yards out off an assist from Aliyah Utush. The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead with 26 minutes left in the game.
The 'Dogs evened up the score when Kerrache took a shot in the 74th minute, the SDSU goalkeeper saved the shot but Kerrache was there to head it back in for the goal. Kerrache's reseilience in the box tied the game 1-1 with 16 minutes left in regulation.
Glaser took shots in the 76th and 83rd minute to try to gain the advantage for Fresno State, but she couldn't find the back of the net. Bracken had a header on the target in the 88th minute, but the SDSU goalkeeper was there for the save.
Time expired with the score tied 1-1, sending the match into overtime.
OVERTIME – Fresno State took control of the ball at the start of the period. The 'Dogs took back-to-back corner kicks but failed to get a shot off. SDSU took the first shot of the period in the 95th minute but missed high. Gomez took a shot for the 'Dogs in the 97th minute but it was blocked out of the box by the defense. The Aztecs took the only shot on goal of the period in the 98th minute, but Theroux came in clutch with her third save of the match.
After 100 minutes, the score remained 1-1 and the game was sent into doubles-overtime.
DOUBLE-OVERTIME— SDSU came out ready to score in the last period to end the match, but the Fresno State defense was ready for the challenge. The Aztecs took a shot on goal in the 107th minute, but Theroux was there for the save to keep the 'Dogs in the game. SDSU took a corner kick in the 107th minute and the offense capitalized on it with a shot, but the Fresno State defense deflected it out.
After 110 minutes, the game ended in a double overtime draw.
Overall, SDSU recorded more shots (12-9) and corner kicks (7-5). Fresno State recorded more saves (4-3).Â
WHAT'S NEXT – Fresno State returns home to host UNLV on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. PT in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. The 'Dogs will return on Sunday, Oct. 15 to host Nevada at 12 p.m. PT.
