The Bulldogs enjoyed an eventful first day in Hawai'i on Wednesday.
HONOLULU - After arriving in Hawai'i on Tuesday evening, the Fresno State Bulldogs had an eventful first full day on the Island on Wednesday conducting their first practice, toured Pearl Harbor and participated in the Hawai'i Bowl Royal Hawaiian Lu'au.
"It feels good to be here and to have one more opportunity together to take the field as the 2017 team against a quality opponent team like Houston," said head coach Jeff Tedford after the 'Dogs went through a two-hour practice under rainy conditions on the campus of the University of Hawai'i.
With the nation's largest win improvement this season going from one win in 2016 to nine wins in 2017, the 'Dogs will look to pick up win No. 10 on Sunday as the bowl game marks a great reward for the student-athletes.
"It is great for student-athletes and to play in a bowl game is always nice. The main thing is they have one more opportunity together, this is a special group and they are really close and it is an honor to be here," added Tedford.
After practice, members of the travel party that did not attend the tour of the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor during the regular season were given an opportunity to see the historic site.Â
The day concluded with the the Royal Hawaiian Lu'au featuring a night of authentic Hawaiian style Lu'au foods and entertainment.
Members of both the Bulldogs and the Houston Cougars were treated to native Polynesian dances, as the highlight of the night featured Tedford, Houston head coach Major Applewhite, Fresno State President Joseph Castro, Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson and assistant coaches from both teams getting on stage to participate in one of the dances.
