Bulldogs face Hatters in road matchup

DELAND, Fla. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team will travel 2,630 miles to Stetson University for a road game Thursday, Feb. 16.
Thursday's matchup will serve as the season opener for the Hatters.
The Bulldogs are 1-0 this season coming off a 15-12 win in their season opener against LIU Brooklyn (Feb. 10).Â
The last meeting between the two squads was Feb. 12, 2016 when Fresno State defeated Stetson 11-6 at the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
About the Hatters
The Hatters were picked eighth in the Atlantic Sun Conference 2017 preseason poll, after recording a 5-12 (1-7, ASUN) record last season.
Stetson returns a veteran offense, including offensive standouts Lindsay Summers and Hallie Merz.
Summers earned All-ASUN Second-Team honors. She became Stetson's all-time points leader (104) and assists (59) leader, and set school season records for points (50) and assists (36).
Merz set a program record in 2016 with 30 goals in a single season during her sophomore campaign.
The Hatters will feature a new goalie this season and only return two defenders.
Mayo named MPSF Rookie of the Week
Freshman midfielder Marina Mayo was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for games played Feb. 6 through Feb. 12.
Mayo is the first Bulldog to receive a weekly honor from the conference this season.
The Park City, Utah native led the Bulldogs to a 15-12 victory over LIU Brooklyn in their home opener Friday night. She had four goals on five shots in her collegiate debut. The freshman was 2-for-2 in free position shots. She grabbed a team-high four ground balls. Mayo also recorded two assists and two draw controls.
Bulldogs have experienceÂ
Fresno State returns 14 letterwinners, including last season's leading scorer junior Nicole Ortlieb.

Ortlieb set a new single-season school record last year scoring 34 goals. The Bulldogs also return two-time All-MPSF honoree and all-time draw control leader (112) senior Caroline Dineen-Carlson.
