Thomas picks up Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honors

Junior left-handed pitcher Ricky Tyler Thomas was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon, his fourth career weekly honor by the conference.
COLORADO SPRING, Colo. - Fresno State junior left-handed pitcher Ricky Tyler Thomas was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office.
It is Thomas' fourth career Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honor after the San Diego native picked up three weekly honors as a sophomore in 2016 on his way to earning First-Team All-Mountain West accolades.
The southpaw tossed six innings in the Bulldogs' season-opening win over Oregon on Saturday evening limiting the Ducks to two hits, one earned run while allowing no walks and striking out nine. It was Thomas'Â 10th career game pitching at least six innings and allowing one or less earned runs and it was his sixth career game with nine-plus strikeouts.
Thomas only allowed four Oregon base runners all evening with the only two hits the Ducks able to manage being a two-out single in the first inning and a two-out solo home run in the fifth inning. He retired 13 batters in a row in between the two hits, including notching eight strikeouts, while striking out the side in the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs conclude their four-game series with Oregon on Monday evening at 6:05 p.m. from Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium. It will be a Night To Remember as the 'Dogs will sport retro Fresno Athletic Club jerseys in honor of Fresno's Japanese-American Baseball History.
