Notes:
• Fresno State is back on the links this Monday-Tuesday at the Southwestern Invitational after opening its spring season Feb. 17-19 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate – the team placed T-12th of 22 teams. The 'Dogs will take a week off before tournament No. 3 of the spring, which is not until March 12-14 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
• This is the third year in a row that the Bulldogs will have competed at Pepperdine's annual event. Last year the 'Dogs tied for eighth place (291-298-298=887), in 2015 the Southwestern Invitational was held in Valencia, Calif. at Valencia Country Club; the Bulldogs placed 11th at that event (301-289-303=893).
• Alex Lee, who has a team-lead four events this season as the low individual, led the Bulldogs with the Fresno State individual low score at the 2016 edition of the Southwestern Invitational (70-77-70=217).
• Through six events this season, the Bulldogs' best finish is fourth place, at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
• Of the 14 schools in competition Feb. 27-28, two rank in the top 25 and 11 rank within the top 100 – according to Golfstat rankings. Fresno State is just outside, sitting at No. 105.
• The Southwestern Intercollegiate was started by USC in 1978. USC and Pepperdine co-hosted the event in 2013 and 2014. After a year without a tournament, Pepperdine then took over hosting duties in 2016 and merged it with its own home tournament, which had been played at a few different sites.
• Notable winners of the Southwestern are Corey Pavin and Tiger Woods.
• Weather at the Southwestern Invitational on Monday (High 53F, Low 40F) is forecasted to have a 10 percent chance of rain and 10-15 mph winds; Tuesday (High 58F, Low 42F) is forecasted to have a 10 percent chance of rain and 5-10 winds.
