Fresno State steals road win at LMU

LOS ANGELES – The Fresno State men's tennis team improved to 4-4 on the season after defeating Loyola Marymount 4-3 Friday afternoon.
Doubles point to LMU
Mantas Bugailiskis and Xander Veys started strong for the Bulldogs defeating Gabriel Diaz and Lukas Moenter of LMU (6-4) in the No. 2 doubles spot.
LMU bounced back to win the remaining doubles matches to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Singles came down to the last match
Five out of the six matches went into three-sets, making for an exciting match against the Lions that came down to the wire.
Zdenek Derkas was the only player to beat his opponent in two sets. The freshman defeated Lukas Moenter of LMU 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 position.
Derkas tied the match at 1-1 with his victory.
Euan McIntoch fought back after dropping the first set to defeat Max Kaiser 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot.
LMU tied the match 2-2 when Gabriel Diaz Freire bested Youssef Hassan in three-sets at the No. 4 position 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Nick Borenchenko of LMU defeated Xander Veys in three-sets at the No. 1 position (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), to give the Lions a 3-2 lead over the Bulldogs.
Patrik Pech rallied for Fresno State in the No. 6 spot defeating Alex Bourgeois in a three-set tiebreaker (6-0, 2-6, 7-6).
The match was tied at 3-3, coming down to court five.
Mantas Bugailiskis defeated Luke Bohuslav of LMU in three-sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.
What's next?
Fresno State will face Arizona Saturday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. PT.
The Bulldogs return home Wednesday, March 1 to host UC Davis at 2 p.m. PT in the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
