Fresno State hosts Oregon in MPSF opener

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team will host Mountain West Pacific Sports Federation foe Oregon in its conference opener on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 12 p.m. PT at the Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Sunday's game will serve as Breast Cancer Awareness Day. At halftime local Breast Cancer Awareness groups and survivors will be honored.Â

The Bulldogs look to defeat Oregon for the first time in program history.
The last meeting between the two squads was on March 13, 2016 when Oregon defeated Fresno State 15-10.
Scouting the Ducks
Oregon is 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in MPSF conference play.
The Ducks are coming off an 18-9 victory over Cal.
Oregon is led by their combative defense. The Ducks are 29th in the nation and fifth in the conference with 11.25 caused turnovers per game and 45 total. Sophomore Julia Taylor leads the Ducks with eight total caused turnovers.
The Ducks were picked to finish fourth in the conference preseason poll. Oregon returns Cambi Cukar, who earned First-Team All-MPSF after setting the single-season school record with 46 assists, and last season's leading scorer in Shannon Williams who recorded 30 goals.
Rookies provide a boost on both sides of the field
Freshman Tiffiny Wallace leads the Bulldogs through three games with 12 goals. She had a career-high five goals against Mercer to lead Fresno State to a 12-10 victory.
Freshman Marina Mayo was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for games played Feb. 6 through Feb. 12. She scored four goals and grabbed a team-high four ground balls in her collegiate debut to lead the Bulldogs to a 15-12 victory over LIU Brooklyn.
Freshman goalkeeper Laurel Maunder has played all 60 minutes in the first three games of the season, owning a 3-0 record. She has recorded a total of 29 saves this season.
Maunder had a career-high 13 saves in the Bulldogs' road win over Mercer (12-10).
Strong offense leads 'Dogs to a 3-0 start
The Bulldogs have shown an aggressive offense to start the season.
Fresno State is currently tied for 15th in the nation with 15.00 goals per game, and is also tied for 15th with 15.00 draw controls per game.
 The Bulldogs own a 45-32 draw control advantage over their opponents. They have a 79.5 percent in shots on goal compared to their opponents with 69 percent. Fresno State has also recorded 54.4 shooting percentage compared to opponents with 35.6 percent.
Fresno State has a balanced offense with 10 Bulldogs scoring so far this season.
Bulldogs have experienceÂ
Fresno State returns 14 letterwinners, including last season's leading scorer junior Nicole Ortlieb.
Ortlieb set a new single-season school record last year scoring 34 goals. The Bulldogs also return two-time All-MPSF honoree and all-time draw control leader (112) senior Caroline Dineen-Carlson.
