Up-and-down opening day leaves ‘Dogs in 10th

Darkness cuts Monday’s 36 scheduled holes short; second round play resumes at 7:45 a.m.
SEAL BEACH, Calif. – The Fresno State women's golf team fell short of completing all 36 holes slated for Monday's opening day of the Gold Rush due to darkness going over the Old Ranch Country Club. The Bulldogs were tied for 10th place among the 14-team field when play was suspended.
Teams will finish round two on Tuesday morning, starting at 7:45 a.m. The final round will follow immediately to conclude the Bulldogs' first spring event of the season.
Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir and Joanna Kim were tied atop the Bulldogs' individual leaderboard at 7-over-par, respectively. They are tied for 28th against the 87-person field. Bjorgvinsdottir shot a 4-over-par 76 to start the event and is 3-over-par thru 16 holes of the second round – she birdied No. 16 to cap Monday's second round as darkness fell.
Meanwhile, Kim opened with a 1-under-par 71, which included a front-nine where she carded five birdies and four pars to go 5-under during that stretch. For the second round, Kim is 8-over-par after 16 holes to put her at 7-over-par for the tournament.
Yifei Wang has jumped 21 positions (into a tie for 35th) during the second round, shooting 1-over-par over 16 holes, after carding a first round 7-over-par 79.
Mimi Ho matched Kim's first round 1-under-par 71, but similarly, the second round was not the same, as she is 10-over-par thru 16 holes. Round one included 17 pars and one birdie, while the second round has accumulated nine pars, six bogeys and one double bogey. Ho is tied for 39th.
Kristin Simonsen holed an eagle on the par-5 No. 16 (442 yards) during her second round, she is 4-over-par thru 17 holes. The sophomore was 7-over-par in the first round, a round that included a front-nine 1-over-par, and a back-nine 6-over-par. Simonsen is tied for 50th.
Samantha Spencer is tied for 76th after an opening round 7-over-par 79 and being 10-over-par thru 16 holes of the second round.
