Seven 'Dogs lead Fresno State past Colgate 14-9

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team defeated Colgate Sunday afternoon 14-9 in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
"We had a great team win today, with seven players scoring on attack," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "Our defense had an outstanding game. To have our defense play really strong as unit and to have Laurel in the cage really allowed us to score on the other end of the field. We were really disciplined today, we learned from our last game and took a big step forward."
The Bulldogs improve to 5-2 this season. This is the best seven game start in program history, already tying the program record for most wins in a single season (5).
The Bulldogs were led by a balanced offense, seven Bulldogs found the back of the net to tally 14 goals.
Marina Mayo, Tiffiny Wallace and Sarah Bloise had three goals each. Jordyn Pandolfo scored a pair of goals for Fresno State. Caroline Dineen-Carlson, Kayla Galet and Nicole Ortlieb each tacked on a goal to round out scoring.
The Bulldogs lead for all 60 minutes of the game.
 Fresno State put a dent in the scoreboard first when Sarah Bloise scored her seventh goal of the season.
Colgate scored its first goal with 25:23 left in the first half, to make it a one goal game (2-1).
The Bulldogs responded with a 3-0 run, to go up 5-1.
The Raiders went on a 3-0 run of their own to make it a one goal game again with 16:49 left in the first half.
Fresno State scored a pair of goals to make it a 7-4 game at the half.
'Dogs maintained dominance in the second half
Colgate opened up scoring in the second half.
The Bulldogs and Raiders traded goals at the beginning of the second half, until Fresno State went on a 3-0 run with 7:29 left in the game to lock in the win (13-7).
Colgate found the back of the net two more times before time expired, but it wasn't enough to erase the scoring deficit.
Sarah Bloise scored the last goal of the game with 43 seconds left to make the final score 14-9.
As a team, Fresno State led in shots (28-22), draw controls (13-12) and clears (18-15).
Freshman goalkeeper Laurel Maunder logged a career-high 14 saves. Maunder also recorded one caused turnover and four ground balls. The freshman improves to 5-2 on the season.

Fresno State returns home Thursday, March 16 to host Quinnipiac at 3 p.m. PT in the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
