'Dogs host Bobcats in Thursday afternoon contest

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team will host Quinnipiac Thursday, March 16 at 3 p.m. PT in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
The Bulldogs are 5-2 (MPSF 0-1) on the season, coming off a 14-9 win over Colgate.
Thursday marks the first meeting between the two programs.
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac is 1-4 this season and 0-3 on the road, coming off of a 19-7 loss against UC Davis.
The Bobcats are led by sophomore Allison Kuhn, she leads the team with eight goals on the season, 11 ground balls, 12 draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Quinnipiac returns standout junior defender Kiera Kelly, who was named to the 2017 Preseason All-MAAC Team. She is currently No. 37 in the nation in ground balls per game (3.00).
Last season, Kelly was named to the 2016 All-ECAC Second Team and 2016 All-MAAC First Team.
Goalkeeper Kyle Larkin is No. 23 in the nation in saves per game (9.60).
Quinnipiac was picked to finish eighth in the 2017 MAAC Preseason Poll.
Fresno State is led by its offense
The Bulldogs have shown an aggressive offense to start the season, outscoring their opponents 94-71 through the first seven games.
As a team, Fresno State holds a 99-74 advantage in draw controls over opponents.
The Bulldogs have a 50.5 shot percentage compared to the 37.4 shot percentage of their opponents this season.
Fresno State has a balanced offense with 11 Bulldogs scoring so far this season.
Rookies provide a boost on both sides of the field
Freshman Tiffiny Wallace leads the Bulldogs through six games with 22 goals. She had a career-high five goals against Mercer to lead Fresno State to a 12-10 victory. Wallace is No. 38 in the nation in goals scored per game with 3.17.
Freshman Marina Mayo, who has 15 goals, 12 ground balls, 10 draw controls and eight caused turnovers on the season, was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for games played Feb. 6 through Feb. 12. She scored four goals and grabbed a team-high four ground balls in her collegiate debut to lead the Bulldogs to a 15-12 victory over LIU Brooklyn.
Freshman midfielder Kayla Galet, who has 15 goals on the season, was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for games played Feb. 27 through March 5. She scored six goals on nine shots to lead Fresno State to an 18-6 victory over Presbyterian College. She grabbed one ground ball and caused two turnovers. The freshman was a perfect 1-for-1 in free position shots. Galet sparked an 8-0 Bulldog run in the first half with three consecutive goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Laurel Maunder has started all seven games of the season, owning a 5-2 record. She is No. 38 in the nation in saves, recording 58 saves.
Maunder is No. 49 in the nation in saves per game (8.29).
Maunder had a career-high 14 saves in the Bulldogs' 14-9 win over Colgate on March 12.
Westgarth controls the draw for Fresno State
Senior Kyleigh Westgarth leads the Bulldogs with 30 draw controls this season. She is No. 42 in the nation in draw controls per game (4.29).
Westgarth has a team-high 15 ground balls this season and a team-high 11 caused turnovers.

Fresno State returns 14 letterwinners, including last season's leading scorer junior Nicole Ortlieb.
Ortlieb set a new single-season school record last year scoring 34 goals. The Bulldogs also return two-time All-MPSF honoree and all-time draw control leader (112) senior Caroline Dineen-Carlson.
