‘Dogs upset No. 29 Cal to open match play

Fresno State opens SDSU's March Mayhem seeded No. 12 and defeats No. 5 Cal by a 4-1 margin on Monday
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The Fresno State women's golf team defeated No. 29 California 4-1 in the opening round of match play at San Diego State's March Mayhem event at the Farms Golf Club on Monday. Slotted as the tournament's 12-seed, the Bulldogs upset the No. 5-seed Golden Bears in March Madness fashion.
Monday's 36-hole day followed with Fresno State advancing to square off with San Diego State, the event's 4-seed. That match was suspended due to darkness and will resume at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The 'Dogs are down 2-1 with one match 2-up, and one all square.
If Fresno State comes from behind to defeat the Aztecs on Tuesday, the 'Dogs would advance to play in the semifinals. If Fresno State falls, the team would move to the bracket competing for fifth place inside the champion's bracket.
After the conclusion of the second and third rounds on Tuesday, the final 18 holes of the 72-hole event will be carried out on Wednesday to determine the March Mayhem Champion.
