'Dogs down Red Flash for third straight win

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team defeated Saint Francis 13-12 in a thrilling come from behind win.
"One of our team mottos this year is 'together fight, together win', and that's exactly how we won this game," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "We called a time out when we were down and told the team what we expected from them for the rest of the game, they came out of the timeout and went on a 5-0 run. I'm really proud of them for rising to the occasion and fighting to get this win."
The Bulldogs improve to 7-2 on the season.
Sophomore Sarah Bloise led the Bulldogs with a career-high seven goals. Tiffiny Wallace scored three goals. Kayla Galet, Marina Mayo and Ryleigh Bone each tacked on a goal to round out scoring for Fresno State.
St. Francis took an early lead
Kayla Galet opened up scoring for the Bulldogs with 25:53, giving the Bulldogs their only lead of the first half.
Fresno State and Saint Francis traded goals for a majority of first half, until Saint Francis went on a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.
'Dogs battle to earn the win
The Red Flash opened up the second half with a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 9-4.
Coach Giglio called a crucial timeout to spark a 5-0 run from the 'Dogs. Fresno State erased the deficit and the contest was tied 9-9 with 15:02 left in the game.
Saint Francis scored to regain the lead 10-9, but Fresno State responded with back-to-back goals to take its first lead of the half 11-10 with 10:14 left in the game.
The Red Flash scored back-to-back goals to retake the lead 12-11 with 7:21 left in the game.
Sarah Bloise scored the last two goals of the contest with 1:42 left in the game to give the 'Dogs a 13-12 lead.
Freshman goalkeeper Laurel Maunder had a save and caused a crucial turnover with 27 seconds left in the game to lock in the win for Fresno State.
Laurel Maunder played all 60 minutes in the cage for the Bulldogs, recording 10 saves. Maunder improves to 7-2 on the season.
"Sarah Bloise had another phenonmenal game and Caroline Dineen-Carlson grabbed crucial draw controls at the end of the game that really put our offense in the position to be successful," said Giglio.
As a team, Fresno State led in saves (10-6), clears (10-8) and recorded fewer turnovers than Saint Francis (13-11).
What's next?
The Bulldogs go on the road to face MPSF foe Colorado on Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m. PT.
Fresno State will return home Monday, April 3 at 4 p.m. PT to host USC in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
