COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State freshman Katerina Stloukalova has been named Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Tuesday, March 21, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. It is the first career MW weekly accolade for Stloukalova.
The native of Brno, Czech Republic helped lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week with victories over Gonzaga (4-3) and Hawai'i (5-2). Competing at the No. 1 singles position, earned her first victory against a ranked opponent, defeating the 105th-ranked Cindy Nguyen of Hawai'i (6-3, 6-1), and also beat Gonzaga's Nevada Apollo (7-6 (5), 6-4). The win over Nguyen gave FS a 3-0 lead over Hawai'i, before the Bulldogs ultimately clinched the match 4-0.
Playing on the Bulldogs No. 3 doubles team, Stloukalova teamed with Olivia Noble to beat Alex Bourguignon and Graciela Rosasde of Gonzaga (6-1) and Marina Hruba and Nikola Dolakova of Hawai'i (6-1). This is the first time this season that Stloukalova has posted an undefeated week in both singles and doubles.
