Tuiasosopo sets personal record in hammer throw win.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – In the opening events of the Cal Poly #ShareSLO Invitational, junior Aisiah Tuiasosopo led Fresno State track and field teams with a new personal record in the hammer throw en route to winning the event. The Bulldogs won three of the day's four events which were held at Cuesta College.
Tuiasosopo attempt of 56.43m (185-1.5) slightly topped her previous personal best which she set a week ago in Las Vegas, Nev. The mark also ranks No. 1 in the Mountain West this season. Along with the top finish in the hammer, the junior also finished fourth in the discus (41.14m, 134-11.5).
Winning the discus was Tuiasosopo's junior teammate, Kayla Hopkins. It was Hopkins' second win in the event in as many weeks as she posted a mark of 51.22m (168-0.5), 8.10 meters beyond teammate Yazmin Torres who finished in second.
On the men's side, Peter Breceda claimed a win in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.86m (157-0.25). In the discus, Kevin Sundberg finished second in his first appearance of the season with a throw of 43.19m (141-8.25).
