Ho, Simonsen card top 10 rounds to open Anuenue Classic

The Fresno State women’s golf team sits in sixth place at highly-contested Maui tournament
KAPALUA, Maui – Mimi Ho and Kristin Simonsen shot a pair of 1-over-par 73's to lead the Fresno State women's golf team on the opening day of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic on Monday. The duo is tied for ninth place.

The event, hosted by Hawai'i, at Kapalua Bay Course, saw six teams shoot 300 or better to open the tournament; Fresno State is one of those six, along five top 50 programs that includes the overall number one, Stanford. In sixth place, the 'Dogs are nine strokes back from the overall leader, No. 7 UCLA.

Aiding her first round score, Simonsen led the field with the top overall par 3 average – she pared three and birdied one. The sophomore went 2-over-par on the front-nine, and 1-under-par on the back-nine.

Meanwhile teammate Ho, led the 'Dogs with 13 pars. She was 1-over-par on the front-nine and even-par on the back-nine en route to her 73.

Yifei Wang and Joanna Kim trailed Ho and Simonsen, each firing a pair of 5-over-par 77's. They are tied for 33rd, respectively.

Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir is tied for 43rd after carding a 6-over-par 78.
There are 90 individuals competing at the Classic this week; the field averaged a 78.13 on day one.

The Anuenue Classic continues at 9:45 a.m. PT with round two. The final round is set for Wednesday.
